Really stunning. Do you have the 100mm macro lens? I only have the 50mm (and I’ve only had my slr camera a few weeks, so I’m a total beginner).

Great shots Nika! I need to get a true macro lens for myself.

Gerald: Thanks :-) This 1:1 100mm 2.8 is a fun toy, is an inspirational even, especially if you are working in well lit situations. I have not tried it “out on the street” in a restaurant because I am too chicken to shoot when I eat out!

I once had a 50mm f/1.8 (I think, maybe 2.4) Macro lens that I prematurely returned because I wasn’t pleased with the shots it took in a dimly lit restaurant, but now I’m considering repurchasing it because I realize even though the shots were dark, they will still pretty crisp, and my other lenses don’t even come close.

Yes thats a great lens.. I will get that next. I dont have any suggestions re: the restaurant setting other than try to get the host to seat you near the best lighting. I remember seeing this blog where they suggested dragging along a small strip of white paper/carboard to sort of wrap around the back of your plate to gather a bit of light and also serve as a backdrop. Next thin you know you will be settingup a little studio out of a backpack you dragged in! *winks*
