(A corn field in northern Connecticut)
Tomorrow and Thursday, I will be attending the New England Farmers’ Direct Marketing Conference and Trade Show on a press pass and will be reporting back here about the small farm and specialty foods from the New England region.
This is a NE specific small farm Agri-Business event organized by Harvest New England, a cooperative marketing program which was created and is supported by the agriculture departments in the New England region.
These include:
There is a lot going on at this conference that covers how to start up, run, and market your small farm/agribusiness or specialty food business.
This year’s conference will be in Sturbridge, MA, a hop and a skip from where I live. It should be interesting and I hope to be able to discover some local foods that I have not explored previously.

I didn’t know you lived that close to Sturbridge. We stay there every year, for our annual trip to the Brimfield show.

Yeah, we live in Wales, right next to Brimfield. I didn’t know you were that much into antiques. Where do you stay here every year? Did you know Basketville closed down? Lots of changes (closures) here recently.

My parents have a 200+ year old Victorian house, so antique loving seeped in by osmosis, although we find a bunch of stuff there that aren’t antiques as well.
We have staked out the Holiday Inn Express as our perfect hotel … and stayed there the past 4 years. We always have dinner our first night, take out in the hotel room, from Rom’s. Love their fisherman’s platter, though my stomach can’t handle fried food like it used too.
Show days, we get lobster bisque and lobster roll sandwiches from the same vendor, and buy huge frozen packs of the soup from them to take home. Love Brimfield. Can’t wait for May!
