I have been meaning to do this shoot for some time but never got around to it until today.
My objective was to examine the inner beauty of natural things like fruits and vegetables. In this case, it was a grapefruit, carrots, greenbeans and radishes.

This is just a first “draft,” if you will. Some kinks need to be addressed.

I have also included, below, some how-to shots of the set up. You will notice that I shoot at home, amongst the mess of family life. I also like to make my own soft boxes and rig things. I spend enough on cameras and lenses and strobes, and flashes. Gotta find ways to get the most of it all!
Enjoy.

OMG! I loved all the photos. Thank you for sharing the how-to-do-it info. I am trying to convince myself that I need a new camera. A friend told me about the new Sony with all the lenses, etc. I have not seen it yet, but believe me—if it does and has all what they say, maybe I will have to bake more cookies and cakes from now on, but I’ll get it.
Which camera do you have?
I’ve got a trypod but I have never used. I have to just take it out of the box and use it, and do your box-thing suggestion…just because is getting painful not to do so. The other night I almost had an accident trying to take a photo on top of my stainless steel table. Yes, I was on top of the table taking the photo. LOL!

Nika,
I just found your blog, actually it was through the discussion you had with Teddy about the food blog awards over at Matt Bites. I’m really glad I’ve found you and even happier that you’ve shown us your photo taking set-up. This is something that I’ve got to work on in the next few months, first I have to move across the country and figure out how to budget in a better camera, but your work is really inspiring. I’ll try to come back often. Thanks.

Mary, wow! So glad you came by. Teddy seems like an awesome person, glad I got to meet him, even tho I made those unfortunate comments. Learned alot from that interchange, for sure.
Are you moving right or left? I saw your post on Stone Barns.. I would love a chance to go there.
I wish you luck with the move and if you have any questions about Canon 30Ds I will try to answer them!

Nika,
I’m moving to the middle, actually (though not figuratively). I’ll let you know when I actually start looking for that camera. Thanks for asking.
